Creative Inking Blog Hop- Showing Off the Pretties!

creative hop

Hello Stamping Friends!! Welcome to our June Blog Hop! Thank you so much for stopping by today! This month we are featuring all the gorgeous new products from the Stampin’ Up! 2016-17 Annual Catalog! I am seriously in love with this newest edition! The bundles and product suites are out of this world! I hope that you enjoy my post today, and don’t forget to leave a comment (or two) we all love to hear from our readers! You can “hop” along all the other demonstrators blog posts by clicking the buttons “next” or “previous” at the end of this post. Enjoy!!

I have loved playing with the gorgeous new Floral Boutique Suite (pages 76-77 in the new catalog). I went to make up some cards to use the new Designer Series Paper and lovely coordinating washi tape and couldn’t believe that I was totally out of Night of Navy cardstock! (not even a scrap to be found!) So I started playing around with other color schemes and our new in-colors and new ribbon and new washi tape. I was looking for a card that had a clean and simple look, would be easy to mail, and that I could use for my up-coming Bingo night. What do you think?

Here’s a look at all four of the cards separately. Each one has a small change from the previous one. They all start with a piece of whisper white cardstock that is 4 1/4″x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″. I used the smallest part of the thinlit die with the precision plate and my big shot to cut the floral images out of the bottom portion of the whisper white cardstock.  Next I used the new Floral Affection Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (from the Affectionately Yours Suite found on pages 44-45 in the new catalog- I think these two product suites go really well together). Then I used a 4 1/8″ x 5 1/4″ piece of solid color cardstock and adhered it to the inside front of the whisper white, so the Detailed Floral Thinlits die cuts would really pop out.) Then some coordinating washi tape, colored some pearls with a gold sharpie pen, and played around with different placements of the ribbon and embellishments.

Simple sweet sugarplum version with our rhinestones. Decided to eliminate the washi tape on this one, do you think it is too plain? This greeting is from the Love & Affection stamp set, another new favorite of mine.

Peekaboo peach version- with two strips of the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape, Gold Sequin Trim, Bow Paper Clips Embellishment (I’m so very glad these carried over from the Occasions Catalog!!) The greeting is from the amazing Watercolor Wishes Card Kit (another product I am thrilled to say is also carried over from the last catalog! I think it is a perfect “starter’s kit” for new stampers, and perfect for those who travel or who have limited space- everything fits inside a small box and it comes with everything you need to make 20 unique greeting cards!)

Another Sweet Sugarplum version, I made a small boo-boo on this one, I thought my washi tape was a little crooked, so I tried to lift it off to reposition it, and it tore my whisper white cardstock a little bit. I decided to keep this card to remember to tell you about it- if you burnish the washi tape (that means rub it in with your finger or bone folder) then it might not easily come off card stock.

This card features one of the colors from our Brights Color Collection- Melon Mambo. This card features a strip of the new Pop of Pink Designer Washi Tape from the Pop of Pink Suite of products (pages 84-85). I have loved using this suite for my clubs, a card swap by mail and now this particular card will be one of my Make & Takes at my next Bingo night. I love that this washi tape collection has 5 rolls and two of them are basic black!

Just a word of caution when you are adhering the card stock to the inside of your card base… use adhesive very sparingly. I opted to use some of our tear-and-tape adhesive but I cut it into small strips (the 1/4″ is too wide around the bottom where the flourish design is cut out). Glue dots would also work. I would avoid wet glue, you don’t want it to seep out.

I hope you find some time to do something crafty!

Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Tags

Well hello there friends! I sure have missed blogging and sharing Stampin’ Up! with all of you wonderful readers! Last weekend was a fun Girl Scout weekend- we took our troop to the Boston Museum of Science for an overnight trip. What an awesome program and great time we all had. I have been going non-stop ever since with functions/meetings every night… there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

I wanted to share something with you that you might not have noticed in the new Occasions mini catalog, our awesome Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Tags, look at how versatile they are:

retro-fresh-2617

I won a pack of these journaling cards at our January Inketts meeting and loved these ideas from the wonderful concept artists at Stampin’ Up! Here are a few projects to give you some ideas for all that you can do with these awesome cards! Thanks Arika B. for your inspiration!

retro-fresh-2618

For this birthday card just cut out the happy birthday from the 3″ x 4″ card. For the card base you add a watercolor wash to the background and some splattering. This is so simple and quick to make and I love how it turned out. QUICK TIP: Did you know that the Shimmery White 8-1/2″ x 11″ Cardstock is perfect for watercoloring? Going on my next order, let me know if you want some too.

retro-fresh-2619

Look at this fun confetti pocket on this card using a Window Sheet and the Retro Fresh This and That Designer Washi Tape. I love that washi tape! (Still using mine from Diva Day).

For the confetti use our awesome Fringe Scissors to cut the cardstock horizontally and vertically. It is such a quick way to get a ton of confetti. I’m just sorry to say that the fringe scissors are on backorder until the end of the month. Drats.

retro-fresh-2620

For this congratulations gift bag, just cut the 3″ x 3″ card using the Circles Collection Framelits Dies and add some flags to the bottom using Crushed Curry Cardstock. Then run a stripe of washi tape along the top of the bag. Simple as that . . . so quick and easy!

Christmas Stamp a Stack was Great!

annes card

Today was my 4th Annual Columbus Day Christmas Card Stamp a Stack Class. As always, it was a full house (for me that’s 8 stampers in my craft room). We were running down to the kitchen to use the 2nd big shot and heat embossing gun used on this card. This card is a CASE from Anne Kennedy, one of my wonderful sidelines. I just changed the embossed snowflake to pool party here. There were dazzling diamonds (aka glitter) everywhere!

case anne s

This card is modified from one I saw online made by another demonstrator, Ann Schach, a Stampin Up! demonstrator who specializes in vintage cards. Ann hand cut out the wreath and used lots of pearls to accent her card. Her base was done in very vanilla, whereas I used Garden Green to tie in the color of ink pad from the wreath. My little holly berries weren’t totally dry before I touched them, and I didn’t have time to go back and make another sample card. I think this helped everyone remember to be careful when using the dazzling details. Also, I’d like to point out that the key to using these new expression thinlits dies is to use a double layer of wax paper between the thinlit and the cardstock, run through big shot backwards and forwards (two turns under the steel die) and carefully remove the wax paper from thinlit before next use. This ensures you have a crisp word each time. The “poky” thing to the rescue today- what a marvelous tool to use with these dies.

swap 2

This card was a swap I received over the summer from swap I did by mail, made by demo Wendy Knowles. I was lucky that my friend Judy loaned me the stamp set and punch, as I don’t own it yet. This was a fast and simple card, made all the more easy by the fun and wonderful washi tape. The ladies enjoyed using the washi.

snow

This card is modified from some that were on pinterest, but it’s so hard to know who made the original, as there was no watermark on there. I love this new little snowman set. It was much easier to use than the snow buddies we had last year. This card was a breeze with the whisper white craft ink. It also pointed out the new striped embossing folder that many people said they didn’t even notice in the mini catalog.

peace

Last but not least, is the card that was my own design. I actually CASE-d from myself- from my swap earlier this month (remember the mini squares?) anyway, I knew I wanted the ladies to have fun with the new Circle card thinlits. Then it was just a matter of incorporating matching paper- which I did with the Winter Frost DSP (designer series paper).

peace inside

Here  is the inside of the card. Sentiment is stamped in new Silver Encore Metallic ink pad.

What one is your favorite?? I love reading your comments! Thanks for visiting with me today, and I hope you had a wonderful Columbus Day weekend! I know I sure did!

Have a great week!

Epic Day This and That Smash Book, Events & Classes, scrapbooking, Stampin Up, This and That, This and That bundle

This and That Free Scrapbook Class!

image

I was tickled pink when I saw this new product  in our early demonstrator-only sneak peek this spring!  Smash books, wreck it albums, junk journals–whatever you call them, this “new old” trend in scrapbooking is super fun and perfectly suits the random way modern life comes at you, as it happens. Traditional scrapping doesn’t work anymore for thousands of busy people, yet we still all want a way to preserve our memories, hang onto precious photos, and manage all the little bits of memorabilia that we love to keep but don’t really have a good place for.

Enter the This & That line from Stampin’ Up… the perfect combo of journaling notebook and scrapbook. It’s a return to scrapbooking the way it first came about–tucking ticket stubs, random photos, pressed flowers and yellowing programs into a book to look through and reminisce over later. Maybe a few handwritten notes here and there.

But in a marvelouly modern twist, and with the addition of rotary stamps, washi tape, and other clever new accessories, this type of scrapbooking has been reinvented for inspiration journals, art sketches, brag books, prayer journals, and much more!

The possibilities are totally amazing! Here’s 40 quick idea for a This & That book:

  1. my favorite quotes
  2. the kids’ funny faces
  3. places we’ve lived
  4. our family recipes
  5. my personal style
  6. new year’s resolutions
  7. places I want to go
  8. my dream house has…
  9. all about us
  10. and baby makes three
  11. Instagram photos
  12. my top ten movies
  13. if I had a million dollars
  14. my pregnancy story
  15. color combos to try
  16. my weight loss journey
  17. prayer & praises
  18. my BFF and me
  19. how we met
  20. cold nose, warm heart
  21. when I was a kid
  22. a day in the life
  23. random facts about me
  24. the story of your adoption
  25. on turning 40
  26. how I learned to ______
  27. books I love
  28. paint swatches I’m considering
  29. 10 things I love about you
  30. songs that make me smile
  31. before and after
  32. I love being a girly girl
  33. four generations
  34. my favorite stores
  35. learning to drive
  36. what my shoes say about me
  37. dreaming of my garden
  38. when we were dating
  39. three wishes
  40. 20 things you don’t know about me

Stop feeling stressed out because you can’t keep up with scrapbooking the way you used to. There’s enough in life to feel guilty about without holding yourself to an unrealistic standard of something that was supposed to be a fun hobby and somewhere along the way turned into a chore. Smash books might be the answer–simply scrapping  your messy and wonderful life as it happens…. click here to go to my online shopping site and see the This & That line and other fabulous, simple kits that take the guilt out and put a healthy dose of fun back in.

Gingham Garden Washi Tape, Stampin Up, washi, washi tape

Washi Wednesday Card Class

IMG_3241

It’s Washi Wednesday… did you washi something today? I just can’t get enough of our new gingham line, and this washi tape bundle (all three roles of Gingham Garden Washi for only $4.95 is item #129314) Washi tape can be easily torn with your fingers, is somewhat see through, can act as an adhesive to hold cards together, can be punched and die cut, the possibilities are endless.

IMG_3245

Can you tell that I punched the butterfly out of the apothecary shaped piece? Then popped a little piece of whisper white behind it to stamp this darling hello sentiment.

IMG_3244

from the “negative space” remaining after I cut out the apothecary framelit on the first card, I had enough for more small butterflies. I made this card base from the Sizzix Oval Accent Bigz Clear Die (item #127005 for $21.95) You start with a A2 size card (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 scored at 4 1/4, fold). Place the fold above the cut line, so you will have a hinge and the card will stand up!

IMG_3242IMG_3243

Would you like to make these cards? I have an opening on my calendar for Tuesday July 30th at 6:30 pm. This is a $10 class for 5 cards (one will be a surprise), snacks, beverages, and I’ll have a drawing for a set of washi tape (gingham garden)! Let me know if you’d like to attend. I can fit 8 stampers comfortably in my craft room. If there is enough interest I can offer it again in August.

Hope you are staying cool and drinking lots of water! Happy stamping!
