Creative Inking- March Hop!

creative hop

Hello stamping friends! Welcome to our March Creative Inking Blog Hop! The theme this month is #imbringingbirthdaysback (remember when I told you about the movement, the stamp, the mission?? (if not, click here to read the original post). I have to admit, I made a mistake by hitting publish (instead of “save”) back on March 12th- that was the day I was starting to put together the content for today’s post.  Once you publish a blog post, you can’t recall it (my only option was to edit or delete it) and I didn’t want to have to re-type that content again.  So now you already know about Shannon West’s creation and I can jump right into my birthday cards and projects for today!

My three cards were inspired my the cute little 6″ x 6″ paper stack called “Have a Cuppa”, it coordinates with the new bundle “A Nice Cuppa” stamp set and “Cups and Kettles” framelits. I love the colors in this pad of paper: Basic Grey, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, and Whisper White. I started experimenting with the stamp set “Balloon Celebration” and the coordinating punch – the Balloon Bouquet Punch!

I took a few hours to just play with the stamp set a few weeks ago, and played around with all the papers, all the stamps to come up with a coordinating set of cards that I could use for this blog post.

Here’s a little secret- it took me about 6 tries before I got a card design I was happy with, here is a rejected card- see how the balloon strings don’t line up? I also didn’t like mixing the fine tip of the marker with the stamped image.

Sometimes I play around and make lots of elements (ie: balloons) and then play around with various backgrounds until I’m happy with it. Here you can see the two-step stamped images with the large and small balloons from this bundle. Notice the watercolor wash background? That is pool party ink watercolored onto the shimmer white cardstock. I thought it would pop.

I loved how this idea came out, notice the thin silver metallic thread? I started using it under the balloon punch-outs, then decided to use it for the balloon strings and bow, I really liked how this came out, what do you think?

Decided to keep this first card CAS (clean and simple). Love the colors together, didn’t even use the DSP on this card!

Here is my first card stamped with the #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp! Love it! Shout out to my downline Sharon, she stayed up until 2 am EST the day Stampin’ Up! launched the sale of this stamp, so she could order it for me, what a great friend! Thanks Sharon!

Next up, this card uses the same Pool Party watercolor wash on shimmer white paper, but decided to try the bunch of balloons out of the DSP and stamped images. What do you think of the mixture?

decided to stamp a sweet little balloon inside this card with the #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp.

Last, but not least, tried the cloud stamps and added some bling with the bermuda bay sequin trim glued down strategically.

Stampin Up

#imbringingbirthdaysback

Hey there stamping friends! Do you get the whole hashtag movement? Let me fill you in on the phenomenon. A hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag used on social network and microblogging services which makes it easier for users to find messages with a specific theme or content. Users create and use hashtags by placing the hash character (or number sign) # in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it.

For example, on the photo-sharing service Instagram the hashtag #bluesky allows users to find images that have been tagged as containing the sky, and #cannes2014 is a popular tag for images from the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Hashtags can be used to collect public opinion on events and ideas at the local, corporate, or world level. For example, searching Twitter for #worldcup2014 returns many tweets from individuals around the globe about the 2014 FIFA World Cup. I often label my photos on instagram with the #lynnzcrafters #stampinup or #stampinupdemo so that people can easily find, and hopefully like, my work. So there you have it, a hashtag is a shortcut to find all the similar photos around that theme!  #yourwelcome!

This amazing lady is Shannon West, she is the Demonstrator Training Manager at Stampin’ Up! and she is the genius creator of a hand-carved stamp using the popular hashtag #imbringingbirthdaysback (remember when we used to have the “Undefined kit and could carve our own stamps?)

Shannon felt that social media was ruining how we celebrated birthdays and she started a movement to mail her friends and family a handmade birthday card (she even makes a lot of her own envelopes too!). Here is the whole story: http://www.stampinup.com/home/en-US/blog-post/corporate-blog/2016/02/10/lets-all-bring-birthdays-back

Well, Stampin’ Up! was so impressed with the huge out-pouring of support that they decided to team up with Shannon, and they created a version of her stamp! (It is a tad smaller so it will fit on landscape or portrait orientation of your cardstock).

I’m also hopping on the birthday movement! If you would like to receive a handmade card from me for your birthday, please email me your address and birthday, and you will receive a card from me! (it might be a little late, as I’m trying to work out a consistent schedule).

want to join in the fun? You can get your own #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp in my online store, just click the photo and it will take you there!143573G
