Reasons Why You Should Start (or keep on) Scrapbooking: (if you don’t need any convincing and are ready to start- scroll down and see my special offer for a FREE Scrapbooking Class)
1. The National Geographic Society estimates than about 80 billion photos were taken in 2012 alone. That figure will only rise as more and more of our gadgets come with cameras. Every two minutes more photos are taken than were taken in all of the 1800’s combined! Something needs to be done to sort and pare down those memories into a usable, practical format.
2. Researchers in Great Britain discovered a mood booster that works even better than chocolate, wine, or music! What is it? Looking at pictures of your loved ones! Studies showed that viewing personal photos of family, friends, and trips they had taken significantly lifted people’s moods. The next time you’re down, pull out an album and you’ll feel better in no time! This also makes scrapbooks the perfect gift for elderly or isolated people who live far from family.
3. Socialization with people with similar interests has long been recognized as part of a healthy, happy life. While you can get together with friends without scrapbooking, it is one great way to make a regular time for yourself to catch up with friends in our busy world.
4. Researchers at UCLA discovered that looking at pictures of a loved one reduced pain levels. Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to get your mind off a painful physical condition or as an activity during recuperation from surgery.
5. Scrapbooking has also recently been proven therapeutic for Alzheimer’s Disease, by helping the patient remain in the current context, giving them activities to connect with their families, and reducing disassociation. It also helps caregivers see the patient as a real person who lived a full life. Scrapbooking is a wonderful multi-generational activity! Grandparents and children can work side-by-side to create a special family memory album!
6. Giving a completed album to a student at their graduation is a wonderful and thoughtful gift. Leaving room for inserting other photos and memorabilia is a good idea too!
7. What better present for a special anniversary than a memory album of photos of the happy couple and their family?
8. Going to a wedding, bridal shower or baby shower? Scrapbooks, supplies, and washi tape are perfect for the recipient to begin her own scrapbook collection.
9. If you have limited space, are on a budget, or need duplicate albums quickly (say for grandparents, teachers, coaches, or a team gift) then digital scrapbooking might be for you. My Digital Studio (MDS) is our software for creating digital scrapbooks (in many sizes) but also creates flyers, newsletters and dvd’s of picture slideshows! Want to give it a whirl? We have a 30 day free trial if you want to try MDS and see if it would work for you. Not sure how to use MDS? I have found thousands of you tube videos for almost every step of using My Digital Studio, plus there is a free website where you can post questions and get inspiration and layout ideas, and more. The website is http://www.mydigitalstudio.net
