Washi Wednesday!

Sometimes someone else’s cards and ideas are so perfect, I need to share them exactly as is, and that’s what today’s blog post is all about-this post is brought to you from the very talented Sarah Sagert from the Stampin’ Up! 2012 Artisan Design Team

CHANGE IS GOOD!

Much like in fashion and home décor, trends in paper crafting are changing all of the time. We often see trends from one area cross over into the other.

I am excited to see change! As creative artists, we tend to craft in our own unique style, but at the same time, we can also be inspired by current trends. By using new and fresh products, we are constantly growing as artists. I love paper crafting and I love following the current trends. Change is good and new products are good!

The first project I have to share with you features the new Coaster Board. I love this stuff! It’s about half the thickness of chipboard and it comes in a pretty vanilla colour. It is recommended to use with the Big Shot dies(US/CAN). I chose the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die for my project. I used the cut-out portion of the Coaster Board, then ran it through the Beautifully Baroque Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to add some texture.

I added even more texture by painting my Coaster Board with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. This is a go-to product for me! I opened up the bottle and used a small brush to apply the Smooch Spritz. It dries so quickly! I also used it to create some splatter.

More Washi Samples!

Another incredible talent is Angie B. a senior concept artist at Stampin’ Up! Look at how she recently used washi tape (and other stuff):

I am a huge fan of the Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper and the Epic Day This and That Designer Washi Tape. And the little Remember This and That Rotary Stamp is packed full of goodness—plus, it will keep track of important dates for you until 2023! The sticker sheets can be used in the journal, or to make some seriously quick cards (see below).

this-and-that-quick-cards

To make the envelope, cut a strip of 4″ x 10″ Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper. Score at 4″ and 8-1/8″. Washi tape the sides closed and decorate the flap. Done! You can make any size envelope to coordinate with any size card.  You can also use these envelopes as additional memento pockets for the Epic Day This & That Journal—or to quickly make your own gift card wrap.

Notice how I have also washi’d the binder clip? Wrap pencils, make toothpick flags, decorate your cell phone cover. It really could get ridiculous! What will you washi?

Hope these ideas help you see even more uses for that wonderful wacky Washi tape!

Coaster Board Meets Beautifully Baroque

IMG_2958

Hi there Stamping Friends!

This was another card we made at Saturday’s Diva Day with Deb Valder. She really wowed us with this new coaster board. Can you see how unique the layer is here with the Bermuda Bay ink? That is a piece of our new Coaster Board (item #129392 is only $5.95 for 8 sheets! each piece measures 6″ x 12″, what a bargain!) Our Coaster Board is thinner than chipboard, but sturdier than cardstock. Perfect for die-cutting, but who knew how well it would work inside an embossing folder (Beautifully Baroque item # 130917 price is $7.95) and then simply roll a brayer over the ink pad, and rub onto the raised parts of the chip board. Easy peasy! The “For You” sentiment on the cover is from “Chalk Talk”  clear mount stamp set item # 130634 $18.95 or wood mount item# 130631 for $25.95.  The 1 -3/8″ circle punch was used to punch out the sentiment. Glued it to a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock punched with the new Artisan Label punch #130920 price is $15.95 (did you know this is an exclusive Stampin’ Up! punch? won’t find this style anywhere else). Punch a piece of basic black with the same Artisan Label punch, cut it in half, and it easily becomes a mat to the bermuda bay piece.

On the inside we stamped the image from “Lovely Romance” {page 63  item # 130267 for clear mount $14.95 , or item # 130264 for wood mount $19.95} with Stampin’ Write Markers (Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, and Old Olive)… don’t forget to “huff” on the colored image to “reactivate” the ink color… did you know you can color right on your stamps? Of course only water based markers, or you will ruin your stamps.
