My First Creative Christmas Crafty Retreat!

Hi there friends, I wanted to share photos of my first retreat I held yesterday at the Elks club lodge in Ballston Lake, New York.

Let me give you the backstory, part of the training program I have been a part of for almost 3 years, encourages us to hold a creative retreat. I wanted to see one in action before I tried it myself so back in August I went with my friend Elizabeth to go to Massachusetts to Selene Kempton’s retreat. I got a lot of great ideas and saw it in action, and while I was there everyone encouraged me to plan my own. With only one free Saturday on my calendar for the month of November I came home from Selene’s retreat eager to plan my first one. Everything came together and I feel so blessed. The day I had available was yesterday, Saturday, November 17, which was the 2nd anniversary of when my sweet mother went to heaven. I know she was with me and helped everything to go so smoothly.

I first invited my team, I have 30 downline that was my starting point. I knew I only wanted to have 30 people at my first one. Not everyone could attend so then I opened it up to some great friends who I thought would enjoy attending an all day event like this. I had 25 people pre-register, and unfortunately one was sick the day of the event but we made her all the projects.

I had these canvas tote bags made up as I wanted everyone to have something to take all their prizes in projects home in. Everyone received one package of the festive farmhouse Christmas DSP, the striped burlap ribbon, and a package of metallic pearls. My theme was farmhouse Christmas and I wanted everything to coordinate. When I was shopping on Amazon for the wood slice ornaments I even found a T-shirt to match my theme so I had to get it for myself.

I don’t know if you can see in this photo but there is a fabric coaster for under their hot cocoa mug that I made, the Santa scissor charm I made with Shrinky dink material (I cased from Carol Hickman), the wood slice ornament I had help from my friends/team Kara and Laurie, and you can see all the Stampin’ Up! products that were included in this event as well as all eight projects we made.

In the first two photos, the gift card holders, I modified these from the projects we made at Selenes’s retreat. I love the simple idea of decorating our gold striped bag, and our Kraft pillow boxes, I just used the farmhouse theme to spruce it up for my event.

In the third picture, I would like to thank my friend and downline Amye Speirs for designing that card for me.

The fourth photo, with the sled, I just cased the catalog.

The fifth photo with the mini tea light lantern, I modified the tutorial from Allison Okamitsu, and her blog is called Nice People Stamp, she’s a wonderful demonstrator from Canada and her directions were perfect. I just changed the paper and ribbon to match my theme.

The little joy stocking was from November 2017 paper pumpkin kit, unfortunately it’s sold out now but I bought a bunch back in September to use for this event.

The last two photos showcase our beautiful mini gable boxes one is in silver and the other is a shimmery white. I just created these two designs using the farmhouse DSP & wanted this to be fun treat holders, I had candy on every table that people could take to fill their little boxes.

I did not have very much money to spend on decorations after ordering all the supplies needed for these projects and the little goodie bags. So my wonderful sister-in-law Kathy loaned me all her farmhouse Decor so I could decorate the tables at check-in and where we ate our meals.

We had a little hot cocoa station, I had a lending library set up where people could borrow my stamps, dies, and punches as well as the big shot set up.

I rotated the projects to each table every half an hour so they could comfortably stay at their seat and I then returned all the projects to a table in the back if anybody arrived late and needed to go make their projects- they had the rest of the day to complete their projects.

Everyone received one raffle ticket for attending the event, I also gave raffle tickets every time they finished five projects they brought to work on, I gave one raffle ticket for each $10 they purchased from me from my retired table or my adhesives, or a catalog order they placed with me. Then I had five bundles of wonderful product and they put the raffle tickets inside the bag of the items they hope to win. I also sold raffle tickets individually, or an arm length for $20. I drew the winners at about 8 PM,  Kara won the Stamparatus, Jessica won the farmhouse Christmas bundle, Amye won the alpine snow Bundle, Jackie won the Snow is Glistening bundle, and Linda won the Winter Woods bundle. I used all the hostess rewards, and my commission on the sale of all the products I ordered for this event as the prizes.

I arranged for my wonderful friend Wendy to come and do chair massages, 19 people enjoyed a relaxing massage, poor Wendy was exhausted after four hours, I am so thankful she was able to come and I know everyone enjoyed their massage! Thanks friend! ūüėė

I have to say the food was delicious, and I’m so thankful to Mike Bloss from the Clifton Park Elks, what a fantastic job he did and we really enjoyed the spread for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I only remembered to take pictures of the lunch buffet but the set up was the same. It was really nice to get up from our crafting table to go to the lunch table.

It just warms my heart to see this room full of special ladies who came out and supported me with my first retreat, everyone shared an 8 foot table, and we had them all near the walls so they could plug in their lights or electronics.

I had some ordering specials for my attendees, and will be placing their orders today. I also still need to unpack my car and now get ready for bingo next week. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who attended, all my helpers, most especially my team for joining Lynnzcrafters and coming out to this event yesterday!

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog post today, I would love to hear from you! What was your favorite project? Would you like to attend an event like this? This was a 12 hour day, we were open from 9 AM to 9 PM… Although we did close up a little early last night everyone was fatiguing myself included.

Please leave me a comment, I am going to do a giveaway I have an extra canvas bag from this event and I will send it to one lucky winner who leaves a comment on this post by Wednesday 11/21 at 6 PM.

2017 Occasions and Sale-a-Bration!, Creative Inking Blog Hop, rubber stamping, Stampin Up, Valentine's Day, washi tape, watercoloring fun

Creative Inking Blog Hop-Let’s Sale-a-Brate!

Welcome to the 2017 Kick-Off of the Creative Inking Design Team! We are thrilled to have you visit our blogs today! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from all over the USA… Today’s blog hop features products from the new 2017 Sale-a-Bration Catalog by Stampin’ Up! and since this is the magical time of year where Stampin’ Up! rewards customers (and hostesses and demonstrators), it’s a great time to Sale-a-brate and celebrate!

As soon as I saw the cute little trucks in the 2017 Saleabration catalog I knew that there would be a lot of fantastic uses, ice cream truck, taco truck, cupcake truck, the list goes on and on. This is the card I came up with for my Valentines card class I had the other night. This was my first choice stamp set out of the new Saleabration catalog I could not wait to get my hands on this cutie, it is free with your $50 minimum order.

I want to share with you a couple of treat holders I also came up with for my Valentine’s Day class. The little test tube is from the September paper pumpkin kit and I filled them with red and white candies called sixlits. The little chocolate holder was made with our tag topper punch (start with a piece of whisper white card stock that is 5 1/2″ long by 2″ wide, punch both ends, then fold in 1/2 and voila!) ¬†This size holds one Ghirardelli chocolate candy and came together very easily with some washi tape, I stamped the image in melon mambo ink and punched it out with our sweetheart punch. (If you want to hold more than one Ghirardelli’s or different sized candy, you can play around with the length and score the bottom to make different size treat holders.)

These were all the cards my stampers made at class and they just loved them!

Well, that’s my offering for today, thank you so much for visiting my blog! I would love to hear from you, and would love to know what your favorite new product from the Sale-a-bration catalog is for 2017?? (scroll to the bottom to leave me a response- I read every one!) Then when you’re ready to hop to the next demonstrator- just click one of the buttons below.

Black, White, & Whatever You Like, Stampin’ Friends Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stampin Friends “Black and White and Whatever You Like”¬†Blog Hop! If¬†you arrived from¬†Deana’s¬†Blog, thank you for¬†continuing with the hop! Don‚Äôt forget to click the¬†Next Button below to check out Carolina’s ¬†amazing creations. PLUS, keep reading for a chance to win a¬†bunch of new crafty presents!

This month we are excited to have three Awesome Guest Hoppers that you should definitely check out:

1. Cindy Waldroff
2. Barbara Welch
3. Angela Carter

Ready to get started with my projects? The theme this¬†month is “Black and White and Whatever You Like”… ¬†there are so many awesome color schemes that coordinate nicely with¬†black and white. I knew I wanted to use our brand new Sale-a-bration recent release of Pedal Pusher, and the last time I was on a bike was when I went to California in September on the Stampin’ Up! Incentive Trip and we rented beach cruisers to ride along the boardwalk. One of the bicycles was this dreamy mint macaron color, so that’s what I decided to go with for my “whatever I like” color. ¬†Once I started this idea, I started noticing this color trio everywhere!

So this was my inspiration for my card creation for the blog hop!

Luckily, as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I was able to pre-order the three new releases earlier this month, and had time to play with them all- and I just had to incorporate all three into this blog hop.

I knew I wanted a pop of color, and our gorgeous washi tape did the trick!

I knew I wanted it to be a birthday card, so the mini balloon punch and “It’s my party” enamel dots helped spruce it up.

Then decided at the last minute to add some mini pearls too… what do you think?

Now to create a coordinating gift card holder…

The new Metallics Glitter tape is a breeze to tear and use- no scissors needed! I love the shimmer and sparkle it adds to the mini treat bag holder.

At first I planned to turn the bag on it’s side, but I didn’t really care for this orientation, so I turned it:

Much better, don’t you think?

Now for the inside- had to use the brand new set “Party Pants”… don’t you love that sentiment “put your party pants on”??? I love it!

See what I mean? Black, white and mint are everywhere! (don’t you love this gorgeous kitchen? I am putting this on my bucket list!)

I hope you liked my projects today, don’t forget to enter to win our Mystery prize- giveaway:

Continue on the hop and increase your chances of winning by commenting on everyone’s post! (be sure to include the hashtag: #SFFebHop in your comments! One lucky winner will receive the prize from all 15 of us bloggers (we will mail you the prize!).

Stamping Sisters are Amazing!

Have you ever had a moment when you are truly surprised, and overwhelmed, and feel more blessed than you think you deserve?? These moments are very rare for me (the surprise part)… I feel blessed every day to have such amazing and loving family and friends and am especially thankful for all the new friends I have made in the years that I have been stamping. Becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator was at first a “scary” decision, but my only regret was not signing up years earlier! Who knew that I would be blessed by knowing such generous, amazing people!

So, unbeknownst to me, several of my downline, my upline, and my sidelines (who I have been helping with their blogs), they decided to create a one of a kind card- it is so much more than a card- it is a work of love and art- and I will treasure it always… Karyn Morrison organized the group with directions and pieces that they completed by mail, as one of my downline was in Florida for the winter (hi Judy) and another was on the road with her hubby and their trucking business (hi Kim), and they all chipped in and gifted me not only with this beautiful card, but also two very generous gift cards that I am going to enjoy using at convention this summer. I am still blown away that you ladies did this for me, and that Karyn hand delivered it to me on Wednesday, so that April- my 50th birth-month, was truly complete. (Yes, that is the cafeteria at Schenectady County Community College- Karyn met me after work, before my part time job- teaching at SCCC).

Karyn even made a special box (thank you envelope punch board!)

bday card1

The theme of the card was the 2013-15 In Colors and Owl Builder punch by Stampin’ Up!

Each segment is so unique and sweet and special and amazing, just like the ladies who created them!

I cannot thank you enough Karyn, Dania, Jamie, Kim, Judy, Amye, Jan, and Pam!! You are so talented, generous and I love you all!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Well, I have more to blog about- it was a busy busy weekend, but I’m saving more for tomorrow, so come back and visit me, okay? Leave a comment, would you? I love hearing from my readers! What did you work on this weekend?

Have a great day!

Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Tags

Well hello there friends! I sure have missed blogging and sharing Stampin’ Up! with all of you wonderful readers! Last weekend was a fun Girl Scout weekend- we took our troop to the Boston Museum of Science for an overnight trip. What an awesome program and great time we all had. I have been going non-stop ever since with functions/meetings every night… there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

I wanted to share something with you that you might not have noticed in the new Occasions mini catalog, our awesome Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Tags, look at how versatile they are:

I won a pack of these journaling cards at our January Inketts meeting and loved these ideas from the wonderful concept artists at Stampin’ Up! Here are a few projects to give you some ideas for all that you can do with these awesome cards! Thanks Arika B. for your inspiration!

For this birthday card just cut out the happy birthday from the 3″ x 4″ card. For the card base you add a watercolor wash to the background and some splattering. This is so simple and quick to make and I love how it turned out. QUICK TIP: Did you know that the Shimmery White 8-1/2″ x 11″ Cardstock is perfect for watercoloring? Going on my next order, let me know if you want some too.

Look at this fun confetti pocket on this card using a Window Sheet and the Retro Fresh This and That Designer Washi Tape. I love that washi tape! (Still using mine from Diva Day).

For the confetti use our awesome Fringe Scissors to cut the cardstock horizontally and vertically. It is such a quick way to get a ton of confetti. I’m just sorry to say that the fringe scissors are on backorder until the end of the month. Drats.

For this congratulations gift bag, just cut the 3″ x 3″ card using the Circles Collection Framelits Dies and add some flags to the bottom using Crushed Curry Cardstock. Then run a stripe of washi tape along the top of the bag. Simple as that . . . so quick and easy!

Christmas Stamp a Stack was Great!

annes card

Today was my 4th Annual Columbus Day Christmas Card Stamp a Stack Class. As always, it was a full house (for me that’s 8 stampers in my craft room). We were running down to the kitchen to use the 2nd big shot and heat embossing gun used on this card. This card is a CASE from Anne Kennedy, one of my wonderful sidelines. I just changed the embossed snowflake to pool party here. There were dazzling diamonds (aka glitter) everywhere!

case anne s

This card is modified from one I saw online made by another demonstrator,¬†Ann¬†Schach, a¬†Stampin¬†Up! demonstrator who specializes in vintage cards. Ann hand cut out the wreath and used lots of pearls to accent her card. Her base was done in very vanilla, whereas I used Garden Green to tie in the color of ink pad from the wreath. My little holly berries weren’t totally dry before I touched them, and I didn’t have time to go back and make another sample card. I think this helped everyone remember to be careful when using the dazzling details. Also, I’d like to point out that the key to using these new expression thinlits dies is to use a double layer of wax paper between the thinlit and the cardstock, run through big shot backwards and forwards (two turns under the steel die) and carefully remove the wax paper from thinlit before next use. This ensures you have a crisp word each time. The “poky” thing to the rescue today- what a marvelous tool to use with these dies.

swap 2

This card was a swap I received over the summer from swap I did by mail, made by demo Wendy Knowles. I was lucky that my friend Judy loaned me the stamp set and punch, as I don’t own it yet. This was a fast and simple card, made all the more easy by the fun and wonderful washi tape. The ladies enjoyed using the washi.

This card is modified from some that were on pinterest, but it’s so hard to know who made the original, as there was no watermark on there. I love this new little snowman set. It was much easier to use than the snow buddies we had last year. This card was a breeze with the whisper white craft ink. It also pointed out the new striped embossing folder that many people said they didn’t even notice in the mini catalog.

Last but not least, is the card that was my own design. I actually CASE-d from myself- from my swap earlier this month (remember the mini squares?) anyway, I knew I wanted the ladies to have fun with the new Circle card thinlits. Then it was just a matter of incorporating matching paper- which I did with the Winter Frost DSP (designer series paper).

peace inside

Here  is the inside of the card. Sentiment is stamped in new Silver Encore Metallic ink pad.

What one is your favorite?? I love reading your comments! Thanks for visiting with me today, and I hope you had a wonderful Columbus Day weekend! I know I sure did!

Have a great week!

Stampin' Up Specials, washi tape

Thank You Thursdays (Washi deal today only!)

Washi tape is such a fun, easy way to add a little bit of pattern to a project. The Witches’ Brew Designer Washi Tape was the perfect addition to this quick treat tag. I love how the skulls show through the die-cut H window (made using the Big Shot and the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Die). The chevron pattern tape adds a little pop of color in seconds.
