Hi there stamping friends! How are you? Can you believe another month has gone by and it’s now time for our November Creative Inking Blog Hop?? I’m so excited to see what the other demonstrators are going to show us today!
My technique card for today is a card inspired by the Northern Lights. On the news recently, they showed some images from Canada and Norway which were just beautiful and I instantly thought “that should be on a card”! So here is my interpretation of a Christmas card featuring the Northern Lights.
If you want to learn more about the Northern Lights (or Aurora Borealis is their scientific name) go here to read and see more:

This photo of the northern lights was shot this summer near Rochester, NY by Brad Timerson, of Newark.
I just loved the purple, mint green, dark blue and hint of pink from Brad’s photo, so I attempted to re-create it here on my card:
This card took me four tries to get just the look I was happy with… I wish I had taken photos of all my previous attempts so you could see the creative process at work.
I started with just perfect plum and mint macaron, but that wasn’t vivid enough. After a few tries I decided to add more colors, and you can see my full color line up here:
I used sponge daubers to swirl the colors on in a circular pattern (think spiral- like a snail shell), I started in the middle with perfect plum, then watermelon wonder, then daffodil delight, then mint macaron, and on the outer circle were night of navy and some more perfect plum. Don’t be afraid to get your fingers dirty! After finishing up the northern lights swirls, then I stamped the new Wonderland pine trees in Stazon ink a few times, then with 2-way glue pen I outlined some of the trees and applied dazzling diamonds glitter. Then I cut the sleigh image from sleigh ride edgelits die on piece of whisper white card stock. and stamped “Silent night” sentiment in Night of Navy ink and added more dazzling diamonds glitter with the two way glue pen.
Lastly, (and because I had a tiny smudge and didn’t want to start all over again), I added a wooden snowflake element and stepped it up with some basic rhinestones for added bling.
What do you think?? This is not my usual card style, and has many more steps than I would try in my clubs or classes, but I was happy with how this last version came out. If you are interested in trying this technique, have fun, and let me know what colors you think look good together to represent the “northern lights”. I love to read your comments!
